Amawele aseChersterville lending a hand to disadvantaged girls
Hilarious
Chersterville comedians who has made a remarkable name in Durban entertainment
industry. Amawele Ase Chersterville is a duo made up of dynamic Durban-based
identical twins, Simphiwe and Siphiwe Vilakazi who has recently made history
with their current campaign of donating sanitary towels to needy girls.
Kwa-zulu
online spoke to the twins, about their campaign. Simphiwe(one of the twins) says
the inspiration of establishing this initiative comes from their love for
helping the less fortunate.
“Most of
black south Africans are in a problem of believing that everything should be
provided by the government wish is simply not true it is up to the citizen to
change the world We then have decided to come up with a campaign that seeks to
not only to fight for sanitary towels but also to provide for the poor but for
now we deliver sanitary towels to poor girls in deep rural areas where we are
saying our sisters should not be stopped but not having sanitary towels to
attend schools and write exams” says Vilakazi
‘If we wish
to change our country let us show our selves’ he adds.
So far the
initiative is funded by their friends and followers on social media who lends a
hand where it is needed. The Twins or Amawele as they are known to their fans
have a vision of seeing the campaign grow, approaching bigger companies for
help and also helping millions.
‘if people
want to be part of this life changing initiative, one can simple buy any
product of their choice, buy as many as you can and we will come and collect
but if you are, far you can send money we will buy and send you a proof of
purchase’
Future plans
of the duo include buying Christmas groceries for 5 needy families, which is a
project they’ve been working on since 2011 and grows each year.
Amawele have
enjoyed plenty of success in the world of stand-up comedy with numerous
projects under their belts, which includes working on a national tour with the
South African Liquor Authority, promoting an awareness around underage
drinking. They have also participated in the promotion of Aromat and were in
the Soweto Comedy event.
‘Our work is
based on what twins go through and we bring light to a lot of questions that
people have about twins. We talk about our situation and highlight the funny
side of being a twin,’
